How is age calculated in years, months, and days?
This tool counts full elapsed calendar months between the two dates, then the remaining days — the same way a person would say "I'm 30 years, 4 months, and 12 days old," rather than dividing the total number of days by an average month length. Month-end dates (like being born on the 31st) are handled by clamping to the last real day of a shorter month, the same convention most calendars use for "one month from January 31st."
Why does the day count seem to change depending on leap years?
The total-days figure counts every actual calendar day between the two dates, including any leap day (February 29) that falls in between — so the same "1 year" gap can be 365 or 366 total days depending on whether a leap year is included in the range.
Can I use this to count down to a future date?
Yes — set "From" to today and "To" to any future date to see exactly how far away it is. The "From" date just needs to be on or before the "To" date; which one represents "today" is up to you.
Does this account for time zones?
Dates are treated as calendar dates only, with no time-of-day or time zone component — "2026-09-06" means that calendar day everywhere, so the result won't shift depending on where you or the dates in question are located.
